The Barrie Downtown Neighbourhood Assocation is concerned about the sale of drug paraphernalia in Barrie stores. We have received numerous calls and emails from Barrie residents, store customers and members stating they do not want to see drug bongs, pipes and other paraphernalia sold or displayed in store windows and cabinets located beside the candy counter for all to see. "I don't want to see it when I go for milk, and I don"t want my children to see it" said one resident.
We feel that selling and displaying these items give a negative image of the city.It also tells our youth and small children that drug use is an acceptable part of our community.
The petition states that:
"We, the undersigned resident's of Barrie Ontario urge the Council of the City of Barrie to put in place and enforce a bylaw prohibiting the display and sale of drug paraphernalia in stores in our city. It's too easy for our children and youth to purchase pot pipes, bongs and other paraphernalia in local Barrie stores"
